MODERN RAILWAYS
How good it is to see Heritage Locomotives still working today over 40 years on gracing the mainline thanks to the Private Companies such as DRS, West Coast, Riviera, Fastline and Cotswold Rail.

Welcome
This collection covers Railtours, Charters, Locomotives of Private Companies, ECS movements and interesting workings that can still be seen on the mainline. FM Rail locos, DRS, Cotswold etc should all appear in due course. I have succumbed to photographing some modern day loco workings against my better judgement!Bring back the 80's!!

    Naff November
Mist and rain so typical of November. When the sun does shine and I have a day off co-inciding with celeb 60040 working 6V92 Corby - Margam it is 110 mins late and I catch the cloud after long periods of sun. Great! Obviously the best working of the month is Grids 56312/311 with new steel traffic run between Washwood Heath Met Cam and Immingham. Wonder if it will run long enough to get an image in the sun?
    1st Oct 2008
    to 31st Oct 2008
    Oh its October already
Back to work unfortunately so not a lot of time for fotting except on wednesday which is my day off. Nice to see Pink 31601 out with a DBSO at Cossington. Also 20905 and 20901 with a working from Old Dalby rather capped the month

    Silly September
Another mixed month of weather and workings in my neck of the woods. Another but last triple header of new Fastline hoppers being moved to Derby being the highlight, i guess.

    August Again
A decent month for workings but oh that weather. It was a difficult month for getting sunny pics but there were occassions especially of 60074 which had a spell on the Ely - Peak Forest and 37's on Serco trains. The NR 97/3's made a nice picture and there were some interesting Power Car moves
16th Jul 2008Power Car 43301 in CrossCountry Livery at Brush Traction
With the grateful thanks to CrossCountry Trains and Brush Traction, I publish a collection of images of Power Car formerly 43101 now re-numbered 43301 and in XC livery having been re-engineered by Brush over a period of 12 months.
The PC is seen on release date from Brush Traction and worked to Craigentinny with 43007 on a shakedown test before going straight into service on friday 18 July 2008.
Well done to all who worked on this project and of course there are still 4 more PC's to be completed for XC over the next number of weeks.

    Jocular July
Holiday month for myself and some old faithful freights such as Corby steel and East Leake Gypsum trains. However still not bad with plenty of activity in and out of Brush Traction. Fastline 66's on coal, a quick trip to Yarmouth, and both blue tugs visited the Loughborough area. 2 CrossCountry Trains Power Cars in new livery after re-engineering were released from Brush Traction

    Jazzy June
Here's hoping for some sun!! Well it wasn't too bad at times. Plenty of interesting workings during the month with the highlight being the testing of yellow NR Class 37's and the introduction of Fastline Class 66's on coal in place of the hired in DRS and GBRf loco's. A good sprinkling of Tugs on an assortment of duties

    Magic May
Highlighted of the month being 47818 arriving at Brush with 2 Grand Central Power Cars for rectification. Tugs in short supply this month with the old favourite Colnbrook - Lindsey producing a shed more often than not. Where's the sun gone?
    1st Apr 2008

    Attractive April
A change of jobs has given me less time to get out and about during the week. However, 2 good charter trains passed Cossington during the month with 40145 and a pair of EWS Class 37 loco's working respectively. Froth Tug 60074 also put in an appearance at the end of the month on the 6E38 Colnbrook - Lindsey empty bogie tanks
    1st Mar 2008

    Marvellous March
The highlight of the month was a new Tug to try and phot. 60074 'Teenage Spirit' in Teenage Cancer Trust's blue livery was launched at NRM earlier in the month then worked off Lindsey for a period on Oils and Ores. A few Advenza moves took place including scrap trains from Thomsons at Stockton to Cardiff Tidal Sdgs.

Rail crash at Barrow Upon Soar, Leicestershire
The train driver of the 0619 Nottingham - Norwich service via Loughborough had to be cut free from his cab on Friday, 1 February 2008 after the service crashed into a footbridge, which had collapsed at Barrow Upon Soar when it was hit by a tipper truck. The 31-year-old train driver, who was trapped for two and half hours, suffered serious leg injuries but six passengers on the train were unhurt. The unit involved 158856 was later moved to Brush for temporary storage
On the following day, saturday, services were running normally on the slowline between Loughborough and Leicester whilst track repair work was carried out to the accident area

    Freezing February
What will this month bring? Well amazingly enough plenty of sunshine during the first half of the month and some nice Class 60 workings. Test trains, Stobart train, Class 37 on Sinfin Tanks and more - not a bad month

    Deadly December
Off to a decent start with some interesting workings and in fact throughout the month there were some good workings to be seen and had. The weather though became progressively worse and worse but as someone said to me ' well what do you expect it is December'!
19th Nov 2007Cotswold Rail Advenza's 47375 first working to Brush, Loughborough
At last 47375 made it's first journey to Brush with a barrier today from Horton Road, Gloucester to collect FGW Power Car 43032 after re-engineering. The Duff returned at 1345 with 5Z46 to Landore, some 35 mins late to it's booked time

    Midland Mainline HST's and Meridians
With the MML livery soon to disappear, it was time to take a few pics to remember them working on the Midland Mainline at Cossington in their final few weeks before East Midlands Trains take over
    1st Oct 2007
    to 31st Oct 2007
    Optomistic October
Not been a bad month. A couple of interesting workings to Brush with 31601 and 33103 both working Power Car drags. Also the begining of the RHTT workings on the MML saw 67/66 combination for a good part of the month.
22nd Sep 200740 Years of Generating at Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station
I was lucky enough to attend a family day by invitation only to celebrate 40 years of generating power at Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station on Saturday 22 September 2007. On display were EWS 66137 with hoppers, 56006 with HAA's and 47150 with Freightliner hoppers

    Sound September
Not a bad month on the whole. Some interesting workings into Brush and 47813 took 58 PGA's off Coalville. Finally nailed a good sunny pic of Grid 56302 at Stenson Junction, while a few sunny shots of 60's on stone and oil trains were grabbed

    A trip to Edinburgh
Managed to get some images whilst on holiday in Edinburgh with the family. Stayed near Prestonpans so one sunny morning a couple of hours yeilded some good pics. Although actually visiting the Edinburgh Fringe it was too good an opportunity not to fot Waverley Station
    1st Aug 2007
    to 31st Aug 2007
    Awesome August
In a way it was with a number of very interesting workings to Brush Traction including the arrival of DRS 47501 and Cotswold 47714. Managed to photograph a few tugs and the odd stock movement. Silver 67029 on Northern Belle made a couple of appearances in the East Midlands. A better month for sun on the whole but never at the right time!
    24th Jul 2007Derby Station
Called in at Derby Station as the sun had finally come out to play. Power Car 43062 recently named John Armitt and NMT yellow NMT train departed soon after my arrival! Also 57002 stabled on Thunderbird duties at5 north end of station.
    1st Jul 2007
    to 31st Jul 2007
    Joyous July
Well it was an extremely poor month for sun, in fact the worst July on record for heavy rainfall. Managed some sunny shots but it was extremely hard work. The Colnbrook - Lindsey evening tanks made a nice sight in the late evening sunshinel
14th Jun 200747832 in Victa Westlink Rail Livery at Derby
Wow that's different. 47832 arrived at Derby Slum from Barrow Hill last night having been released after a re-paint into Victa Westlink Rail's colours. 31128 also accompanied the duff to Derby and they joined pink 31601 in the Slum
    1st Jun 2007
    to 30th Jun 2007
    Joyful June
The whole of the month brought plenty of rain showers with some sun. The Erewash Valley Blockade started on 10 June 2007 bringing freight to the Derby - Long Eaton line not normally associated with such workings! Nice to see 37688 finally released from Brush Works and at last a pic in the sun of Mainline blue 60044.

    About Me
I am in my fifties and still have a strong interest in todays Diesel and Electric railways. My interest in Diesels began in the very early 1970's with visits to Wellingborough Station to see Class 45 and 46 'Peaks' working passenger and the odd Class 44 on a freight from Toton. Eventually this lead to getting started in photographing the diesel scene in the early 1980's when I lived in Wrexham, North Wales. Iron Ore trains from Llanwern to Shotton steelworks used to rumble past my house in the capable hands of double headed Class 37 locomotives then laterly Class 56's In 1983 I moved to Hinckley, Leicestershire and I was very keen on taking photos around Leicester or Nuneaton. I used to travel anywhere for that newsworthy photograph. However, with the passing of time and favourite classes of locomotives, I then turned my attention to other matters. However, I have discovered the Heritage Scene and I really enjoy a day out visiting our Heritage Diesel Railways around the UK especially if there is a diesel gala taking place. Recently I have become interested in the steam engine that today's enthusiast calls a 'kettle'. Living so close to the GCR as I do, I suppose it was always inevitable that the unforseeable would happen.
